In the year 1865 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Greisel. To this union were born ten children, one having died in infancy. Six sons, John, of Lisbon, North Dakota; Dan, of DeMotte, Ind.; Will and Fred, of Lowell; Elmer, of Palacios, Texas, and Frank, of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Mrs. Clark of Wheatfield, Ind.; Mrs. Lewis Falk and Mrs. Frank Worley, of Lowell, survive.
At the age of 21 years he united with the Christian church in Lowell and became a staunch worker in the cause of Christ. In the year 1895 his wife died. In the year 1905 he was again united in marriage to Mrs. Abbie Fowler, who departed this life March 28, 1923.
For the past year Mr. Tanner has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Falk, where he departed this life June 8, 1924, at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 3 days.
The deceased leaves to mourn his death nine children, thirty grand-children, 13 great-grand-children, three sisters and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. J.B. Dunkleberger, former pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. Fred Gibson, local pastor, conducted the funeral service. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery. Undertaker Weaver had charge of the funeral service.
The following grandsons acted as pall-bearers: Forest and Earl Tanner, Glen Tanner, Ray Clark, Elmer Worley and Vern Falk. The following were honorary pall-bearers: Cyrus Dickinson, Emory Thomas, Homer Stowell, Henry Hoshaw, Willis and Nathan Worley.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Frank Tanner, Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. S.D. Clark and sons, Otis Kennedy, of Wheatfield; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tanner and family, of DeMotte, Ind; Mrs. Emma Sell* and son and wife, of Wolcott, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nelson, of Chalmers, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Millard Sell, of Kouts; Mr. and Mrs. John Sell, of Hammond; Mrs. Orville Ellis, of Chicago; Mrs. Fred Tanner, Kouts; Mr. and Mrs. D.K. Frye, Rose Lawn; Mrs. Lewark, Kniman, Ind.; Miss Ollie Tanner, Rennselaer; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Albright, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tanner, Chicago.
* NOTE -- The last name of Emma Sell was spelled "Sill" in the obituary of Rudolph Taner.
