This obituary, copied from the Spalding Scrapbook, was found in the Local History Files at Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 4, page 71):
Levi, third child of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Spalding, was born in West Creek Township, September 12, 1861, where he grew to manhood. After attending school at Depauw University he taught in the schools of southern Lake county for several years.
December 25, 1886 he was united in marriage to Millie F. Edgerton of Creston. To this union were born eight children. Two sons and a daughter having preceded the father in death.
In 1896 he moved with his family to Louisiana where he resided a number of years, later moving to the home at Azalea, Oregon, where he passed away to his final rest Dec. 4, 1929.
He is survived by a loving wife, two sons, three daughters, a number of grandchildren also two brothers and three sisters.
