The following undated, unidentified newspaper article was found in a copy of Helen Craft's Scrapbook at the Lowell Public Library:
Death of Their Baby Girl
Darkened rooms, hushed voices and sorrow prevailed in the home of Rev. and Mrs. J.B. Sites last Sunday morning, for in the night the angel of death silently entered their home and departed with one they loved. Saturday afternoon about 4:00 o'clock the children were playing in the house and Mrs. Sites, closing the stove doors, went out in the yard to look for something which the children had lost. She was gone only a few minutes when she heard some one screaming in the house and rushing in she was horrified to see her child enveloped in a mass of flames. The efforts of the frantic mother to extinguish the flames were successful but it was too late -- the child was fatally burned. A physician was summoned and attended the child but the little sufferer died in its father's arms at 9:00 o'clock that night. A happy fireside -- little children playing around the room -- their merry laughter and childish prattle -- father and mother happy in the enjoyment of the life of their home circle -- in a minute's time transferred to a scene of sorrow and suffering and a gloom cast over all. Nearly everyone knows the pangs of anguish caused by death, but to be bereft of a loved one in a few hours' time is truly a severe trial, and the parents have the sympathy of all. The funeral services were held from the M.E. church Tuesday morning, conducted by Presiding Elder Wilson, of Valparaiso.
