The following April 12, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
William Rohl, with the engineer corps, writes his parents that the fighting is very hot on the German front where his outfit is at present. He said they had captured a German flag and he was sending it home, with the names of all his outfit inscribed on it. He said he could not tell how he secured the flag until the war was over and [he] was home again.
