The former entertainer died Thursday in the Home Hospital at Lafayette of a heart condition. He would have been 86 years old in another month.
Mr. Reynolds capped a brilliant amateur career that included 16 national and international skating championships when he won the world title in 1899 at Switzerland.
THE YEAR before he had become athletic director for the Metropolitan Opera Company and taught famous opera stars how to skate.
He was hired by Florenz Ziegfeld to teach Anna Held to skate and appeared with Miss Held in "Parisian Model." In that show, he met Australian skating start Nellie Donegan, whom he married in 1908, with prize fighter "Gentleman" Jim Corbett as best man.
The Reynolds appeared as a team and were present at the 1914 Ringling Brothers Circus fire at Hartford, Conn., in which 169 persons died. Mrs. Reynolds died of shock about a year later. Mr. Reynolds retired to Rensselaer a short time later.
