The following August 14, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
Donald E. Midkiff, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Midkiff of route one, Lowell, is completing his AF basic airmen indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base, the "Gateway to the Air Force".
His basic training is preparing him for entrance into air force technical training and for assignment in specialized work. The course includes a scientific evaluation of his aptitude and inclination for following a particular vocation and career.
Don was graduated from Lowell high school last spring and prior to his enlistment was employed by Koke TV and Radio Sales and Service.
A November 27, 1952, Lowell Tribune article on page 1, column 6, mentioned that Don Midkiff was home from service for Thanksgiving.
