The deceased was born in Germany in 1825. She was married to Fred Bowman, to which union three children were born, namely: Mrs. Oliver Ross, of Crown Point; Ella, who died at the age of 24 years; and Fred Bowman, of this place. In 1846 Mr. and Mrs. Bowman, with their children, left Germany for America. While on their way on the great deep Mr. Bowman died and was buried in the Atlantic ocean. With a heavy and sad heart the widow , with her fatherless children, prodeeded the rest of the journey to what to her was a strange country, among a strange people, and came to Hebron. In 1854 Mrs. Bowman was again united in marriage to Wm. Hoofhouse. To this union three children were born, of whom only one, Mrs. Jessie Alrick, of Chicago, is living. Mrs. Hoofhouse and family lived on a farm near Hebron, where Mr. Hoofhouse died in 1888. During her last sickness she was with her son Fred and family, of this place, where she died Friday, March 6, aged 75 years.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 1 o'clock p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bowman, in Lowell, conducted by Elder John Bruce. Funeral Director C.E. Binyon had charge of the burial service. Interment in the cemetery at Plum Grove. The following acted as pall-bearers: James Pinkerton, M.J. Sanders, Albert Hayden, J.F. Harris, T.D. Dickinson and W.C. Nichols. The TRIBUNE extended to the bereaved children and friends sincere sympathy in their dark hour of sorrow.
