The following newspaper article, Hand-identified as being from the July 28, 1955, Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Lowell relatives and friends received sad news Wednesday morning of the death of John W. Hilliard of Morgantown, West Virginia. Mr. Hilliard passed away Tuesday, July 19. Funeral services will be held tomorrow, July 22, at the Davidson Funeral Home in Morgantown. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Marguerite Simpson of Lowell, who is extended sincerest sympathy in her bereavement.
