Mary Gamble* was born in Maryland, September 8, 1827. Her parents having died when she was a child, she removed to Bellville, Ohio, where she lived with an uncle until her marriage to George W. Handley, May 29, 1846.* To this union ten children were born, four of whom having previously departed this life. January 9, 1896, she was called upon to part with the companion of her youth and was left to walk the path of life alone save as she was sustained and comforted by her children. In her very early life she gave her heart to Christ and put her life into His keeping. For more than fifty years she had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Sister Handley leaves to mourn her departure three daughters -- Mrs. George W. Davis, Mrs. W.J. Crawford, Mrs. May Babcock; three sons -- Charles, Edward and William; also a number of grandchildren and a large circle of friends who have the sympathy of the entire community. The funeral took place from the Methodist church Sunday August 27, 1899, at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. A.A. Randall who spoke from John 14: 2-3. The remains were laid to rest in the Orchard Grove cemetery.
The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: John Hack, Clifford Wiley, Mr. Courtie, Wesley Blanchard, Elmer Warner, and Ed Wheeler.
