M.M. 3/c Donald Foley writes his mother Mrs. Jesse Owens that he is being moved from his station at Wake Island. Don has been overseas with the navy since last Feb. when he was last home.
This March 21, 1946 Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
Donald Foley, MM 3/c, son of Mrs. Jesse Foley, writes that he is now hospitalized on Kwajalin Island after suffering a fractured leg in an accident while operating a bulldozer on Wake Island about three weeks ago. He underwent an operation there, then was flown to Kwajalin where another surgery was performed. He was to have started home about March 15th but now doesn't expect to make it for at least two more months.
This April 18, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 9, column 2:
Don Foley, MM 3/c, who suffered a fractured leg in an accident several weeks ago, while operating a bulldozer on Kwajalein Island, wrote his mother that he was transferred by plane to a hospital in Hawaii recently. He said the doctors report he will have to remain there for about two months, Another operation will be performed on the injured leg in a short time.
This July 4, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
Petty Officer 3/c Donald Foley, who has been in a hospital overseas the past four months, arrived in Chicago Tuesday. He spent a 72-hour leave here with his mother, Mrs. Jessie Foley.
