Lucretia DeGau Dodge (1819-1895)

A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Died, March 9th, 1895, at the residence of her son, Henry Dodge, in Ferry County, Michigan, Lucretia DeGan* Dodge, aged 76 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Deceased was born in St. Catharins, Canada, and was the mother of 12 children, 9 of whom survive her, 7 boys and 2 girls (Mrs. J.P. Spalding, of Orchard Grove, and Mrs. J.K. Hayden of Sherburnville). Deceased was one of the early settlers of West Creek, having settled there in 1837 and lived there until 1891 when they moved to Oceana County, Michigan, and then to Washington County, Kansas, where they lived two years, and then moved back to Michigan, where her husband Henry Dodge died in 1879. Since then she has lived with her children and when the Methodist Church was organized at West Creek she became a member and lived a Christian life until her death.
