Isabelle Smith Cox (1882-1934)

Isabelle (Smith) Cox was born at Sherburnville, Ill., May 31, 1882, the daughter of Margaret J. and William Smith, where she lived on a farm with her parents until 1900, when the family moved to Lowell. She was student of music at Eureka College and Valparaiso, and taught piano for several years. Early in childhood she joined the Christian church, to which faith she was devoted throughout her life. In 1911 she moved to Chicago with her mother and brother, and in December 1918 she was joined in marriage to William Cox, to which union one daughter, Betty Jane, was born. I

n 1924 she affiliated with the University Church of Disciples of Christ in Chicago.

On May 10, 1934, she was called to her heavenly home. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two daughters, Betty Jane and Mrs. Evelyn Monroe; her brother, Lee Smith, and son-in-law, Wendell Monroe.

Funeral services were held at the Lowell Christian church at 3 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Ames, pastor of the University church in Chicago, of which she was a member, conducted the services, assisted by J.E. Poer, pastor of the Lowell Christian church. Miss Martha Amlong sang, accompanied by Mrs. Grace McCarty at the piano. Interment was made in the family lot in Lowell cemetery in charge of Sheets & Son. The following acted as pallbearers: Harry Ditchburne and John Wolcott, of Chicago; Harold Sutton, George Miller, Mel Robinson, C.U. Ragon.
